Workers Compensation Insurance
One of the core aspects of being a business owner is keeping your employees safe while at work. While you can spend time, money, and effort securing the best tools, equipment, and safety features for your employees, accidents can and will happen. It is at these times that you need to have a solid Workers Compensation policy in place to provide vital protections for both your employees and your business interests.
The state of California mandates that every business carry Workers Compensation insurance that will cover lost wages and medical treatment resulting from an employees work related injury (or illness). Coverage may also extend to services needed to assist an employee recover and return to work.
Workers Compensation insurance can also protect employers from lawsuits by workers injured while working.
Workers Compensation insurance provides the following benefits:
- Medical Care
- Temporary Disability
- Permanent Disability
- Supplemental Job Displacement
- Return-to-Work Supplement
- Death Benefits
The best way to lower your overall risk of having a Workers Compensation claim is to prevent accidents from happening in the first place. This can be achieved by having risk control efforts in place such as employee safety training and employee orientation meetings.
Summary of Workers Compensation Benefits
The following are summaries of the coverage classes. If you are in need of Workers Compensation Insurance, please call us at 760.600.0550 so we can guide you through implementing a custom program designed for your business needs.
Paid for by the employer, California Workers Compensation insurance will pay for the workers medical care that is reasonably required to cure or relieve the effects of a work related injury (or illness). This includes doctor visits and other treatment services, tests, medicines, equipment, and travel costs reasonably necessary to treat your injury
Temporary Disability Benefits
Temporary disability benefits are payments a worker receives if they lose wages because their injury prevents them from doing their usual job while recovering. Temporary disability pays two-thirds of the gross (pre-tax) wages the worker would lose while recovering from a job injury. Temporary disability payments begin when a doctor says the worker can’t do their usual work for more than three days or they get hospitalized overnight.
Permanent Disability Benefits
Permanent Disability is any lasting disability from a work injury or illness that affects the workers ability to earn a living. If the workers injury or illness results in Permanent Disability, they are entitled to benefits. Permanent Disability benefits are limited. If the worker loses income, Permanent Disability benefits may not cover all of the income lost. If the worker experiences losses unrelated to their ability to work, Permanent Disability benefits will not cover those losses.
Supplemental Job Displacement Benefits
If the workers date of injury is in 2004 or later, they may qualify for Supplemental Job Displacement Benefits. These are vouchers to help pay for retraining or skill enhancement if they don’t recover completely from their injuries (or illness) and don’t return to work for their current employer.
Return-to-Work Supplement Program
The Return-to-Work Supplement Program (RTWSP), was created in April 2015 for the purpose of making a one-time supplemental payment to workers who experience a disproportionate loss of earnings. A worker may be eligible for a Return-to-Work Supplement if they have a date of injury on or after January 1, 2013, and have received a Supplemental Job Displacement Benefit (SJDB) voucher for that injury. A one-time $5,000 Return-to-Work supplement is issued to an injured worker who meets the eligibility criteria.
Death benefits are payments made to a spouse, child or other dependents if an employee dies from a work-related injury or illness. The amount of the death benefit depends on the number of total and/or partial dependents.

“I can’t say enough great things about John Solis.
When I set out to find a business insurance policy for my small business, I ran into some issues. Because my business is a little unique, many companies didn’t want to insure us or, if they did, they charged extremely high premiums for not so great coverage.
Then I found John… he was on top of things from the moment I first contacted him. He searched high and low to find the best policy for my business. Not only did he get us a great price, the coverage exceeded all other quotes we had gotten.
John’s communication is top-notch. He returns calls, texts, and emails almost immediately. He answers all of my questions thoroughly and honestly.
If you’re in need of any type of insurance, I highly recommend John Solis. He won’t let you down!Alisa D.
